Lucy and Pedro's Wedding

Lucy and Bridesmaids

When Lucy contacted me in 2017 to do the wedding makeup for herself and her bridal party I jumped at the chance. The theme was heavily influenced by the Great Gatsby era – characterised by its opulence, luxury, feathers, gold and glamourous makeup. In essence this was every makeup artist’s dream.

The venue was to be the Temple of Peace located in the heart of Cardiff. With it’s grand marble entrance and ornate stained-glass windows it is a location befitting the splendour of the theme.

Lucy is an actress, meeting her partner Pedro in 2013 during rehearsals for a satirical sketch show called NewsRevue in Warwick Avenue. They became a couple the following year, in October 2014.

Their wedding was never going to be an understated affair. Lucy chose to wear a fabulous Enzoani dress from Laura May Bridal, fitted on top showing her petite frame, then flowing from the waist. Lucy wore her hair in a high bun with plaits which allowed us to be dramatic with the makeup. We opted for gold smoky eyes and a deep plum lip. This teamed with her gold dress and handmade broach bouquet oozed Hollywood vintage glamour.

Inspiration was derived from the venue itself with the tall ceilings and stained-glass windows. Lucy and Pedro wanted an over-the-top party, and they pulled it off with style. Feathers replaced the usual flower bouquets carried by the bridesmaids which accompanied their gold sparkling dresses which were reminiscent of the glitz and glamour of Dreamgirls.

The first dance was poignantly sung by Lucy and Pedro’s mutual friend Clare Cordell who gave a rendition of 'The Right One Comes Along' from the TV show Nashville.

Special moments floated through the day like Nashville fireflies leaving memories at they went. These occasions are marked by moments anticipated for a lifetime - Lucy’s proud, teary eyed dad seeing his beautiful daughter in her dress for the first time or Pedro, awestruck by his bride-to-be’s entrance to the grand hall to mention just a couple.

And after such an emotional day they celebrated into the night with a games-room-come-nightclub theme - playing beer ping-pong and limbo dancing. And the pièce de résistance, Pedro's spontaneous flash dance performance to the soundtrack ‘License to Kill’ on the strike of midnight - complete with unrehearsed lifts. An original wedding and a magnificent day to set the happy couple on the way to their new life.
